Giggles O'Hearn was sitting up in bed trying to think of a good deed she had done. Someone calling herself Anonymous had posted a long list of such praiseworthy deeds online. Suddenly one came back to her. A woman with a walker had left her purse behind on her chair in the restaurant. Giggles had noticed and retrieved it for her. Not only did the woman not say thank you, her gaze slid off her as though she couldn't quite place her in the human species. Then her expression hardened still more and she murmured "Thief." Giggles had gone back to her own seat in the restaurant and kicked the table leg in frustration, an action which hurt her more than she had anticipated. Giggles stopped thinking of good deeds and turned her attention to the agreeable fantasy of being a judge and pronouncing a death sentence on various false friends who had betrayed her. She watched their faces as they crumbled into despair. One after another they predictably cried out "No. It's not fair. Have mercy. I'm innocent!"
